ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disclosed is an anode for oxygen evolution in acidelectrolytes such as are used in processes for anode electro-winning of metals. The anode comprises a base of lead orlead alloy and an active layer of catalytic particlespartially embedded in the base. The active layer comprisesvalve metal particles such as particles of titanium spongeimpregnated with an active coating comprising ruthenium andmanganese oxides. Also disclosed is a method of making theoxygen evolving anode. The process comprises impregnatingtitanium sponge particles with ruthenium and manganesecompounds, and converting these compounds to oxides. Theresulting particles are pressed and partly embedded into alead or lead alloy base.
