Abstract of the DisclosureThe invention disclosed is an improved process for the electrowinningof metals, particulary copper and zinc, from an acid solution of a sulphateof the metal in the presence of SO2, the improvement comprising introducingSO2 adjacent the anode/electrolyte interface at an appropriate rate. A novelporous electrode construction for use in the process is also described, includ-ing a hollow core through which SO2 may be sparged to provide SO2 at theelectrode/electrolyte interface.
