ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for recovering zinc and manganese dioxidefrom material containing zinc and manganese compounds, in-cludes leaching the material to provide an aqueous solutioncontaining manganese and zinc ions, electrolyzing the solutionin one electrolytic cell with conditions inhibiting the forma-tion of manganese dioxide and favouring the deposition of zinc,and electrolyzing the solution in another electrolytic cellwith conditions favouring the formation of manganese dioxide. Zinc is removed from the one electrolytic cell and manganesedioxide is removed from the other electrolytic cell.
