A lead alloy and an anode produced therefrom is particularly suitable for electrolytically extracting zinc from sulphate solutions. A preferred alloy is composed of: Ag:0.50% + 0.02%, Ca:0.10% + 0.01%, Sb:less than 0.0002% and Pb:the remainder. The alloy may contain barium so as to avoid calcium losses in regenerating the anode.
