An alloy and an anode constructed therefrom which is particularly suited for the electrolytic recovery of zinc from a sulphate solution. The alloy composition is: Ag 0.4-1 wt.% Ca/Sr 0.05-0.15 Pb balance Barium can be included in the alloy to prevent calcium losses when the anode is recycled, and antimony is preferably less than 0.0002%.
