Road warning system and method

A first vehicle 107 is equipped with a warning means 102 to project an image onto a road surface, the image corresponds with the area and position of said vehicles blind spot or zone 104. The vehicle has a detection means 103 and a control means. The detection means may generate a plurality of detection zones 111. If an object 108, which may be a person, a bicycle or a motor vehicle, enters zone 111 then detector 103a registers its presence. The controller is activated and the projector emits a light onto the road surface to warn the object. The object 108 may be equipped with a detection means or tag 105 that communicates with the first vehicle. The vehicle may also communicate with road or street furniture, see figures 3A 3C. The system may employ more than one projector and may be speed or direction dependent.
