The instrument landing system for use by aircraft has an onboard data processing facility with input/output units for sensors (5) coupled to a dynamic positioning module operates together with a graphics display processor accessing a ROM data base (11). This provides input to a head-up display (15). Flight data is entered into memory via a data link. Actual location of the aircraft on the runway is indicated (14) in the form of screen layout. A data link (12) exchanges information with the control tower. ADVANTAGE - Improved system performance in adverse weather.
