The present invention relates to a device (1) for cooling solar cells (2) by means of a flowing cooling medium (8). The cooling medium (8) is in direct or indirect thermal contact with at least one solar cell (2) and with an external cooling unit (9). The cooling medium (8) at least partially consists of a phase transition material (8b). In the method, heat of the solar cells (2) can be removed particularly effectively by way of the high thermal capacity during the phase transition of the phase transition material (8b), thereby increasing the efficiency of said cells through particularly effective cooling.
