HEAT STORAGE MATERIAL

PURPOSE: To provide a latent heat storage material which melts or freezes at a given temp. between -2.5 and 28°C and stores or evolves heat stably over a long time with little overcooling, by incorporating calcium chloride, manganese chloride, and water. CONSTITUTION: A heat storage material comprising clacium chloride, manganese chloride, and water. By mixing calcium chloride (CaCl2.6H2O) with manganese chloride (MnCl2.4H2O) in a ratio of 40W99%:1W60%, the freezing point of the mixt. varies from 10 to 28°C. 9.1% MnCl2.4H2O and 18.2% water are added to said mixt. to cause depression of the freezing point in proportion to the amts. of MnCl2.4H2O and water to be added. Prevention of overcooling is pref. for effective storage or evolution of heat, and the addn. of an oxide, hydroxide, bromide, iodide, phosphate, etc. of strontium, as a nucleator, is effective for this purpose and enables the overcooling to be controlled within 1°C.COPYRIGHT: (C)1983,JPO&Japio
