A latent heat storage unit (1) having a storage container (2) that is filled with alatent storage medium (3) in particular a salt hydrate is provided. To heat or cool asecondary medium (4), a thermally conducting heat exchanger (5) is connected to thestorage medium (3). The heat exchanger (5) has a number of heat conducting walls (6)separated from one another by intermediate spaces and that are in thermal contact withthe secondary medium (4). On least one of the outside of the heat exchanger (5) that is incontact with the latent storage medium (3) and the inside of the storage container (2) thatis in contact with the latent storage medium, there are at least one of sharp edges andpeaks that promote the crystallization of the storage medium (3) and prevent a sub-cooling of the storage medium (3).
